We go through stages in life where we interact with many different people.
Sometimes we think about a certain people that we will always be friends with them or that they will always be a part of our lives. Alot of the time we are wrong. Be it our fault, their fault, or societies fault, we just can not always hang on to everyone or even the majority of people we want to. That's why those few people that you get to keep are so special.
I am eternally blessed and thankful for all the friends I have and am especially thankful to those who have made the concerted effort to keep friendships and social groups even when the lines of communication have become stretched geographically/hashkafically/otherwisely.
The day I got back to NY I received the following call:
Him:
"Hey, I heard your back... so you have to come to ____ this Shabbos."
Me:
"Well I mean I just got back, can't I come next Shabbos?"
Him:
"No, it's a reunion, everyone we went to yeshiva with is going to be there!"
